18-year-old ALEJANDRO LOPEZ, 41-year-old MARIA DEJESUS LOPEZ, and 41-year-old JUAN JAVIER LOPEZ (all pictured below), were arrested on Friday, July 10, after a dog was found lifeless, hanging from a wire cable.
Court documents state the trio “intentionally, knowingly, and recklessly confined an animal, namely a dog, in a cruel manner by tying the dog with wire cable and not checking on the dog for more than 24 hours, causing the dog to become suspended by the cable, and resulting in the dog's death.”
Sgt. Stacy Schuelke, an investigator for the animal crimes task force, said his team responded to the call after a Comcast employee who was working at a neighboring house noticed the dog, a Pitbull mix, dangling from a tree.
Schuelke said: “The worker tried to save the dog himself, but the dog was frightened and became aggressive, biting the man repeatedly. He called the police, but by the time authorities arrived, the animal had perished.”
Schuelke also added that “his office found the deceased dog hanging from its wire tether. It appears that the animal got tangled in the wire and the family had not checked on him in three days. The dog also had not been fed and was emaciated.”
Schuelke explained that: “The dog got tangled up in the wire so that it was around his back legs and ended up suspending him from the wire so he couldn’t touch the ground.”
Fort Bend County Precinct 3 released a graphic picture of the furbaby hanging in the yard.
When the trio were questioned, they admitted they had not fed the dog or checked in three days.
“The dog was thin and going hungry,” Schuelke said, “They hadn't paid any attention to it.”
Houston Chronicle reports that according to Schuelke, “because the dog was suspended by his legs, the animal may have suffered for days before it died. It's no telling how long the dog had been hanging when the worker found it. It could have been more than a day or two.”
These monsters were arrested and charged with one count each of MISDEMEANOR cruelty to a non-livestock animal.
They are expected in court in November.
