- Florida, USA -
The nonprofit Mutty Paws Rescue announced in a news release that in connection with a dog they rescued on August 11, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests and will be releasing details of the case in the coming days.
A Good Samaritan found Khaleesi, a 2-year-old brown Catahoula leopard dog, on the night of Tuesday, August 10, on Eisenhower Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.
Michelle Holsinger, of Mutty Paws Rescue, was able to get the furbaby on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 11, reports FOX 4.
On August 12, a post by Mutty Paws Rescue partly reads: “This poor senior is nothing more than bones. She can’t even walk and falls over when she tries. Every single bone possible is protruding from her 19.5lb frail body. Given her breed, she should weigh between 50-65lbs. She would not have survived another 24 hours. She is INFESTED with hookworm and anything she eats runs right through her.”
The organization offered a reward in exchange for information leading to a criminal conviction of those responsible for such a monstrosity.
On August 17, Mutty Paws Rescue explained in an update posted on Facebook: ”Khaleesi has rapidly declined and we made the decision as a team to move her to Veterinary Emergency Group where she will remain in more of an ICU style setting with constant vital signs and all of the necessary life saving equipment on hand. Khaleesi’s status was stable for us initially and was in great hands with our medical team but took a turn for the worse yesterday when she became so weak she could not even stand or pick her head up.”
A piece of good news was shared by Mutty Paws Rescue when they posted a video of Khaleesi moving and “finally able to walk” with the help from her foster family.
Meanwhile, the case was being investigated and WINK reports that Khaleesi’s original guardian came forward with a tip which led to 27-years-old ASHLEY ELLEN HOWARD (pictured below) .
NBC2 reports that when deputies went to her home, they found two other dogs who were being kept in deplorable condition. They were covered in feces and had no food or water.
Deputies also located a third dog inside the residence.
The furbaby appeared to be perfectly healthy and his guardian was identified as 26-years-old CHARLED EDWARD KOONS (also pictured below).
Deputies say that although KOONS’ dog was in good health, KOONS was aware that HOWARD abandoned Khaleesi nearly lifeless on the side of the road, and that the other two dogs were in poor condition.
Both subhumans were arrested and are facing animal cruelty charges. Online records show they bonded out!
Online records also show that both HOWARD and KOONS have a morning hearing scheduled for October 4, 2021.
