How often do we read or hear about stories in which altercations among humans then lead to an innocent animal getting hurt?

The INNOCENT and VOICELESS VICTIM of this story is a cat named Stanley.

Stanley was in his crate when he was thrown in the river by 53-years-old CHRISTA ANNE THISTLE (pictured below).

According to a news release by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, on the early evening of Thursday, August 19, deputies were called to the Riverwood Park Campground on 298 H H Burch Road in Oak Hill.

They learned that THISTLE and her boyfriend had recently broken up and got into an argument because he was not moving fast enough out of the RV.

THISTLE started moving her ex-boyfriend’s belongings out of the RV, and then picked up his cat, Stanley, and cruelly threw him into the river.

The sheriff’s office said the man jumped in and rescued Stanley after he had been submerged for about 20 seconds.

When deputies arrived, Stanley was still wet and shivering. His dad was wet from the waist down, “consistent with jumping in the river to save him”, said the sheriff’s office.

Like a true coward and criminal, THISTLE denied the allegations.

Animal abusers are only full of courage when they go after someone who cannot fight back.

THISTLE was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail on a charge of animal cruelty and simple assault.

The news release stated THISTLE “demanded to be taken to jail so she could make a phone call, bond out and kill her ex-boyfriend.”

The sheriff’s office said THISTLE remained in custody Friday morning with no bond pending first appearance.

Online records show there was no bond for the assault charge and a $5,000 bond for the animal cruelty charge.

As for Stanley, Volusia County Animal Services took custody of him for follow-up evaluation and care.
