Salt Lake City Police Department arrested 45-years-old DANIEL DUANE ETHERINGTON (pictured below) after he stabbed an innocent dog to death.
On Saturday, October 16, police were called to the Gateway Inn on 819 W. North Temple.
KSLTV reports that SLCPD Officer Darrell Anderson wrote in the probable cause statement, “I was informed by management that Daniel has previously been trespassed from the Gateway Inn and is not welcome there. The motel room belongs to the dog owner who also states Daniel was not supposed to be there.”
ETHERINGTON told police the dog tried to bite him and he acted in self-defense.
Court documents, however, do not match ETHERINGTON’s statement.
In fact, ETHERINGTON claimed the dog was stabbed once before he/she got onto the bed and bled out as he/she was moving towards his/her crate.
The probable cause statement read: “However, at the scene the crate is full of bright red arterial blood with it splashed on the walls around the crate. There was very little blood on the bed.”
According to court documents, ETHERINGTON got rid of the dog’s body “and never notified the owner or law enforcement or animal control of the circumstance.”
ETHERINGTON removed the furbaby’s body from the scene and it has still not been found.
The dog’s guardian told police that on two separate occasions, ETHERINGTON told him that he was going to kill his dog.
ETHERINGTON was booked into Salt Lake County Jail for aggravated cruelty to animals, intentional or knowingly, and criminal trespass.
Online records show he is still in custody and bail was set at $25,000.
