Following an investigation, detectives with the Suffolk County SPCA have charged 60-years-old DARCY D. BEARD with animal abandonment.
BEARD is accused of driving up to a Dix Hills Animal Hospital when it was closed, abandoning her 9 year old female cat named Lavender Rose, leaving her in a carrier at that location, and then driving off.
According to court records, the incident happened on the early morning of Thursday, June 23, 2022.
In a news release Suffolk County SPCA said that BEARD surrendered to SPCA detectives on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.
Suffolk SPCA Chief Roy Gross said that his detectives charged BEARD, of 15th Street, Huntington Station, with one count of animal abandonment.
The female is scheduled to appear in First District Court, Central Islip, on July 26, 2022, at 9:00 a.m.
As for Lavender Rose, the Suffolk SPCA said that she was adopted by a loving family.
