A Washoe County jury found 29-years-old DENNIS MARK GLENN (pictured), guilty of misdemeanor animal cruelty in connection to the beating of his dog in April 2022.
Back in April, officers with the Reno Police Department were called to First Street in downtown Reno near the Truckee River about a fight in progress.
Officers learned the fight started after a passerby saw GLENN beating his dog, a 2-year-old Pitbull named Abando.
Police reviewed surveillance footage and GLENN could be seen punching Abando multiple times before picking him up, throwing him across the street onto the concrete sidewalk and again punching him multiple times.
Police said Abando did not show any aggression.
Following the incident, GLENN was arrested on the animal abuse charge and the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office charged him with one felony count of willfully or maliciously torturing, maiming, mutilating or killing a dog or cat.
A jury ultimately convicted GLENN of a lesser count of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
During the trial, prosecutors argued that GLENN’s “actions were malicious and clearly not appropriate discipline.” In a separate civil action, the Reno Justice Court found that GLENN “was unfit and terminated his ownership interest in Abando. Following that hearing, Washoe County Regional Animal Services placed Abando in a new home where officials say he is thriving today,” according to News 4 & Fox 11.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 30, 2023, before Judge Barry Breslow. GLENN faces up to ONLY six months in jail.
