A drug investigation led to the discovery of 14 dogs living in deplorable condition in the backyard of a home on 1717 West 15th Street.
The Sanford Police Department said in a news release that on Wednesday, March 9, its Neighborhood Response Unit conducted a search warrant at the home and investigators found fourteen Pitbulls living in filthy conditions.
The furbabies were mostly living in homemade pens constructed of wood and wire, said investigators. The poor dogs were covered in feces, some of them had maggots, and not all of them had access to food or water.
Seminole County Animal Services were called in and after examining the dogs, they told investigators that some of the dogs had injuries that could be life-threatening if untreated.
Four dogs had severe injuries such as untreated wounds and cuts. One dog had an inch deep cut and could not walk properly.
The following day, Animal Services returned to the residence, removed all the VOICELESS VICTIMS and took them to the Seminole County Animal Services Center where they are being quarantined and treated. It is unclear if they will be up for adoption sometime in the future since this is still an open investigation.
Animal Services also said that the dogs need to be monitored for temperament.
In connection with this case, police arrested 56-years-old DENNIS VANN (pictured below).
VANN was arrested on March 15, during a traffic stop, reports ClickOrlando.
VANN was charged with four counts of Felony animal cruelty and ten counts of Misdemeanor animal cruelty.
VANN told police he was recently sick and unable to care for the dogs.
It’s unknown whether he asked a friend or a relative to step in while he was sick!
On Wednesday, March 16, VANN appeared in court and faced a judge for the first time on those charges. The judge said he is not allowed to possess an animal as a condition of his bond.
Online records show that VANN is scheduled to be in court on April 19, 2022, at 1:30 p.m.
As reported by WESH, VANN “was eventually charged with the intent to sell cocaine and marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.”
Court records also show that VANN has a long rap sheet of 19 other charges and convictions, mostly drug related.

Another POS dog abuser/neglecter! Why do people get dogs then refuse them basic necessities & care? Oh, probably dog fighting. Then they whine about their own health! I am so glad these poor souls were removed from this selfish monster. Please don’t just euthanize them for convenience.
