The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-years-old DIEGO TORRES RUIZ (pictured), on Thursday, December 8, 2022, accused of tossing two kittens from a moving vehicle.

According to a news release by the sheriff’s office, on November 28, 2022, a motorist reported seeing two kittens tumble from a northbound Hyundai Santa Fe near Mile Marker 87 on Plantation Key. Vehicles swerved on U.S. 1 to avoid hitting the furbabies.

The motorist was able to provide a description of the vehicle and its tag number. The driver of the suspected vehicle was later identified as TORRES RUIZ. When he was stopped shortly thereafter, he “denied knowing anything about the kittens,” said the sheriff’s office.

The VOICELESS VICTIMS were not immediately found, so TORRES RUIZ was released but the sheriff’s office continued to search for them.

Later in the day, one kitten was sadly found deceased “apparently being struck by a vehicle.”

The other kitten had run into the woods and was later found by a Rain Barrel Village employee and taken to Whiskers & Paws in Key Largo with non-life-threatening injuries. The furbaby was adopted by the motorist who witnessed the cruel incident.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office notified the State Attorney’s Office and warrants were obtained for TORRES RUIZ. The filthy individual is facing two counts of animal cruelty. Bond was set at $50,000 and online records show he was released from the Monroe County Jail the same day of his arrest.

TORRES RUIZ is scheduled to be arraigned on January 3, 2023.

Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay said: “I take these incidents very seriously and I’m happy to report an arrest was made in this case.”

It is disgusting how these humans mentality is everything is disposable. How can anyone feel safe enough to just chuck two living, breathing, feeling souls out of a moving car?! They don’t care they have an audience. To the person that not only alerted authorities to this slob‘s blatant cruelty but also adopted the one that survived, bless you kind person. Rest now wee baby, you are safe. And to the blessed soul that did not survive, run free wee baby across 🐾🌈 where there is no pain, no fear, only love & security. Until we meet again. 😔
