On Wednesday, March 17, Howard County District Court Judge Wayne Brooks sentenced 49-year-old ELIZABETH LINDENAU and 47-year-old BRADY DECKER (both pictured below),
to 11 counts of animal cruelty each for failing to provide sufficient food, air, space, and necessary veterinary care to numerous birds, cats, and dogs.
LINDENAU was sentenced to only 90 days suspending all but 30 days to begin June 1, 2021 with credit for one day time served.
DECKER was sentenced to only 90 days, beginning on Wednesday, with credit for one day time served.
In January 2021, the couple had been found guilty of 11 of the 16 charges.
Upon their release LINDENAU and DECKER will each spend three years on supervised probation, during which time they won't be allowed to have any animals.
It all started when on July 17, 2019, when Howard County Animal Control received an anonymous call about a horrible stench coming from the pair’s home on 9466 Hundred Drums Row in Columbia.
DECKER and LINDENAU refused to speak with or allow ACO into the property despite numerous attempts by the officers.
ACO obtained and served a search warrant to the couple’s home on July 24, 2019.
Once inside the residence, officers noticed a strong odor of dust, urine, and waste, and the place was cluttered with trash throughout.
Officers discovered 59 live animals and 42 deceased birds and other small animals in their freezers.
Among the live animals there were 39 birds, 11 dogs, 5 cats, 2 snakes, and 2 turtles.
All the live animals were confiscated by Howard County Animal Control.
