The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19-years-old ETHAN KLAY MORALES (pictured), an Alabama salesman, for stealing a dog from a Florida home and attempting to send the furbaby to a shelter.
The incident happened on the afternoon of Thursday, October 20, 2022, when MORALES was walking through a neighborhood in Rockledge conducting door-to-door sales. A Jack Russell mix dog named Angus who was in his guardian’s front yard of a home on 528 Glenbrook Circle ran up to MORALES.
MORALES picked up the furbaby and continued walking down the road. About an hour later, MORALES returned to Angus’ guardian’s, Joe McPherson, to sell solar equipment.
Mr. McPherson asked MORALES whether he had seen a dog, he answered: “No, have a blessed day.”
Thankfully, a neighbor was able to show Mr. McPherson footage from their security camera in which MORALES could be seen picking up Angus and walking away with him.
When deputies located MORALES and asked him about the dog, he told them he had not seen the dog and that he had no knowledge of the incident. At that point deputies told him there was a video showing him picking up the furbaby and walking away.
MORALES told deputies he put the dog in his friend’s car and that the friend took the dog to a shelter. Later, deputies learned that MORALES took Angus to his mother’s home in Palm Bay.
Online arrest records show that MORALES was arrested and charged with one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty and one felony count of grand theft. He was released from the Brevard County Jail after posting a $2,500 bond.
