On April 4, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) wrote in their Facebook post that the owner of a liveaboard vessel anchored in the Manatee Pocket made a desperate plea to rescue his dog after being hospitalized for possible COVID-19.
On April 3, the owner contacted the Sheriff’s Office to advise that he had no choice but to leave behind his German Shepherd named Sassy.
MCSO Marine Unit, in collaboration with Animal Services Officers, put together a plan to rescue the stranded furbaby.
As you can see from the pictures, the team dressed in full personal protective gear.
They then headed out to the vessel, where they boarded the boat and located Sassy.
The German Shepherd was safely removed from the boat and brought back to shore.
Animal Services Officers then transported her to a facility where she will remain until her owner recovers from the illness.
Thank you all so much for rescuing Sassy.
As I repeatedly say these days, our animals need you NOW more than ever!
