A few days ago the Odessa Police Department shared something unusual on their Facebook page.
On Tuesday early morning, February 11, a German Shepherd walked into the station after running away from home.
Officers realized he did not intend to apply for a K-9 position, so they played with him for a while in the lobby with a tennis ball.
At some point officers called animal control to check for a microchip, but the canine ran off.
Officers looked for him but could not find him.
His human dad, Edward Alvarado, was home sleeping and had no idea of what was going on.
He found out after his nephew saw the dog’s pictures on social media, so he texted him and asked him: “Is that Chico?”
Meaww.com reports that Sergeant Rusty Martin said the following morning Alvarado called them to explain Chico was his dog and that he had returned home safely.
Alvarado said they live about a mile from the station.
The Department wrote in their Facebook post that Chico is welcome back anytime!
