- Florida, USA -
On the afternoon of Saturday, April 2, the 9-1-1- Dispatch Center of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) received several calls from concerned neighbors on Seaman Trail East, Palm Coast, about gunshots being heard. The callers also reported hearing dogs barking and crying.
Deputies responded to a property on 21 Seaman Trail East, and upon arrival they made contact with 25-years-old JAMIER TAWAIN LEE-BRIGHT (pictured).
The sheriff’s office said in a news release that LEE-BRIGHT denied hearing anything at first, but gradually, “his behavior and mannerisms became concerning and deputies witnessed him sweating excessively with what appeared to be freshly smeared blood on his face.”
Deputies also noticed “a freshly dug hole in the corner of the backyard” and LEE-BRIGHT trying to hose off the lanai.
Due to the suspicious circumstances, deputies called in detectives to assist with the investigation.
When detectives questioned LEE-BRIGHT, he told them that he was woken up earlier to a family member screaming at their dog who had bitten her.
FlaglerLive.com identified that family member as 24-years-old CANDACE BRICE, LEE-BRIGHT’s fiancée. The news agency also reports that BRICE’s young daughter was in the house.
According to FlaglerLive.com, a report states that BRICE “did not sustain any injuries” from the dog.
LEE-BRIGHT claimed he got out of bed, took a firearm, picked up the dog, took him outside, and shot him in the head. LEE-BRIGHT said that after shooting the dog, he dragged him back inside, locked him in the kennel, and tried to clean the bloody patio so that no one would know what happened.
After LEE-BRIGHT admitted to shooting the dog, detectives immediately entered the home and found the VOICELESS VICTIM, a 1-year-old German shepherd mix named Rocky, “visibly in pain.”
A deputy reported: “At no time did Jamier display any remorse for his actions.”
Rocky was taken to Flagler Animal Hospital where he drifted in and out of consciousness. Veterinarians said the bullet had narrowly missed the carotid artery and all vital organs.
Rocky sustained a fracture of the left humerus but he is expected to fully recover!
From an investigation it emerged that after Rocky was senselessly and cruelly shot, he was left inside the kennel for over two hours before law enforcement was notified.
According to FlaglerLive.com, the reports states that other people at the house told detectives that they never saw Rocky display aggressive behaviors.
Detectives also learned that in the past LEE-BRIGHT has turned over multiple dogs and that he knows what the appropriate course of action is if he needed to remove a dog from the home.
Dixie Commons Animal Hospital, where Rocky had been examined in December, reported no aggression.
A Palm Coast Animal Control officer reported no detectable aggression from Rocky, either.
Reportedly, LEE-BRIGHT told animal control officer Kasey Hagan: “I don’t want that fucking dog back in my house!”
On the afternoon of Monday, April 4, a warrant for LEE-BRIGHT’s arrest was signed for Felony cruelty to animals and tampering with physical evidence.
LEE-BRIGHT was transported to the Green Roof Inn on $7,500 bond which he was able to post a few hours later, according to online records maintained by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
As Sheriff Rick Staly rightfully said: “This is a sick and twisted individual to try and reprimand an animal and leave it to die. I’m glad the dog is doing well and expected to make a full recovery.”
I echo Sheriff Staly’s gratitude toward all the parties involved in the rescue of an innocent breathing being, especially the neighbors!!!
