JEREMY MICHAEL PURSELL stabbed an innocent dog because the dog was “getting too old”

- Pennsylvania, USA -

Charges presented by an animal cruelty officer with the Erie Humane Society put 48-year-old JEREMY MICHAEL PURSELL (pictured below), behind bars.

PURSELL is accused of stabbing the dog of a woman he once had a relationship with.

Go Erie reports that the incident happened on October 7, when PURSELL stabbed an 8-year-old black Labrador mix, named Blue, on the back of the neck at a residence on Woodlawn Avenue in Erie.

The woman told investigators that in the past PURSELL told her it was time to get a new puppy and referring to Blue, he said he needed to “blow his brains outbecause he was “getting too old.”

Lisa Stiles, the chief humane officer for the Erie Humane Society, wrote in the affidavit that the woman heard Blue whimpering outside and when she went to check, she found blood on him.

When she asked PURSELL what he did, he responded: “He’s not dead yet?

PURSELL then added he was going to “finish the job” so the woman picked up Blue and another dog and fled the home.

Blue was treated at Animal Ark Pet Hospital in Millcreek Township.

The animal control officer filed charges against PURSELL on October 22.

PURSELL is accused of two third-degree felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals and neglect of animals.

He was arraigned on Friday, March 5, by Erie 5th Ward District Judge Paul Bizzarro.

Go Erie reports that on Monday PURSELL was in the Erie County Prison on $100,000 bond.

PURSELL is tentatively scheduled to appear in court for his preliminary hearing on March 26, 2021.
