The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) arrested 47-years-old KATRINA BRAZIL (pictured) on two felony counts of willful/malicious torture of an animal and nine charges of torturing/injuring/abandoning/or starving an animal.
On the afternoon of Friday, July 14, 2023, police received several complaints from witnesses who saw dogs in two hot vehicles at Motel 6 in the 5000 block of Dean Martin Drive near Tropicana Avenue with temperatures hitting 111 degrees.
Responding officers found nine Pitbulls, two adults and seven puppies, without water or shade. Sadly, one adult dog and one puppy were found deceased. The adult dog was found in the backseat of a pickup truck and the puppy was in the backseat of BRAZIL’s car.
According to the report, BRAZIL left the dogs in the vehicles for at least thirty (30) minutes.
KLAS reports that according to documents, BRAZIL told police she and her boyfriend had bred the dogs and were trying to sell them. Reportedly, the pair got evicted two days earlier, were staying at the motel for two nights, and left the Pitbulls in two vehicles. BRAZIL said she and her boyfriend were going to take the dogs to a friend’s home but the boyfriend was in jail and she was waiting for him to be released.
According to KSNV, BRAZIL explained to investigators that she put four of the nine dogs in her boyfriend’s truck and the other five in the backseat of her Chevy Malibu. BRAZIL first claimed that the A/C was running in both vehicles but later admitted that she wasn’t sure whether the A/C was working properly inside the truck. Moreover, BRAZIL admitted the backseat floorboard where her dog, named Cash, was found dead was “extremely hot.”
The live furbabies were rescued and seized by Animal Control. BRAZIL said she did not know the names of the other eight dogs.
On Saturday at her bond hearing BRAZIL was granted bail and according to KSNV she was released ”under medium-level electronic monitoring and is ordered to stay out of trouble and have no possession or contact with animals.”
BRAZIL’s arraignment was scheduled for Tuesday, July 18, 2023, but she did not show up for medical reasons and the arraignment has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 20, 2023.
