- Tennessee, USA -
39-years-old LEON LEWIS III (pictured) is facing three charges, including aggravated animal cruelty, for fatally shooting his innocent dog.
According to the affidavit out of Davidson County obtained by Voice For Us, on April 16, officers heard a loud gunshot and then saw LEWIS walk out of a ditch onto Shurgard Way next to the parking lot on 3910 Central Park. LEWIS then walked into the hotel on 3910 Central Park.
When officers approached the ditch, they found a small black dog wagging his/her tail “while bleeding from the mouth suffering from a gunshot wound.”
Unfortunately, the affidavit does not contain the furbaby’s breed, age, gender, and name.
Officers went to the hotel and reviewed video surveillance. The affidavit stated that in the video LEWIS could be seen exiting the hotel with the dog, walking through the parking lot onto Shurgard Way, and into the ditch with the dog. The video goes on to show that after a moment, LEWIS leaves the ditch without the furbaby as he walks through the parking lot and enters the hotel.
The hotel manager told officers that LEWIS and another party were staying in room 142 and that they had a dog.
The affidavit has identified that other party as RENATA MCGHEE.
MCGHEE “was standing outside the hotel during the incident in earshot and eye view of the ditch”, stated the affidavit.
LEWIS and MCGHEE were later located in the parking lot and the woman told officers that LEWIS had a gun in their room. The pair then gave officers consent to search their room and their U-Haul rental van.
Inside the van officers found a black .32 caliber revolver which had one spent casing in the chamber and two live rounds.
LEWIS was placed under arrest and stated that he understood his rights and did not want to talk to the officers.
According to the affidavit, “During an excited utterance the defendant stated, “I should've just let the dog go.”
Animal control responded to the scene and will hold the VOICELESS VICTIM’s remains.
A necropsy will be performed to remove the round from the furbaby’s body.
LEWIS is charged with the following:
· Animal cruelty aggravated felony charge with a $25,000 bond.
· Assault, reckless endangerment and deadly weapon felony charge with a $15,000 bond.
· Possession of firearm felony charge with a $40,000 bond.
Online arrest records show the murderer is still in custody.
According to online court records, LEWIS was back in court on Tuesday, April 26, before Judge Aaron Holt and is due back on Monday, May 2, 2022, at 9:15 a.m. before Judge Lynda Jones.
Records list Kevin Kelly as LEWIS’ attorney.
On an unrelated note, through an Interstate Identification Index check, MNPD Records showed that LEWIS was convicted in Georgia in 2007, for felony vehicular evading, and in 2013, he was convicted in California for multiple felonies, including robbery among others.

This smirking monster uttered that he should have let the dog go instead of shooting this precious soul & ’discarding’ him/her in a ditch to die slowly & painfully. Well hopefully this POS will be discarded in a prison cell for a lengthy time & that his cruel crime will be announced to everyone. Then maybe he will experience the fear & pain he heartlessly enacted on this innocent pup. Then, if all is fair he still has HELL to pay for what will feel like eternity. Then his smirk will be replaced with agony, pain, & fear! RIP PRECIOUS SOUL!
