LUIS ADALBERTO NIETO arrested for selling dogs who were severely neglected

- Texas, USA -

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 46-year-old LUIS ADALBERTO NIETO (pictured below), after he sold Shih Tzus who were severely neglected and required medical attention.

The arrest is the result of an investigation that began on September 14, when the Sheriff’s Office received a report from a woman saying that she had bought from NIETO four Shih Tzus, and explained that not only the furbabies looked visibly neglected, but that there were two more who needed to be rescued.

According to the affidavit, when responding Deputy Clark looked at the woman’s dogs, he determined that lack of care led the poor souls to have matted fur, embedded worms in the fur, hair loss, and scabbed skin.

The Monitor reports that the woman took her dogs to her groomer who found open scab wounds and maggots embedded underneath the dogs’ hair.

The affidavit also states that investigators with the Sheriff’s Office looked at videos and pictures of the Shih Tzus in question and it clearly emerged that the poor dogs were deprived of necessary care that caused them erythema, and one of the dogs had an eye infection which was never treated.

The Sheriff’s Office says that the Shih Tzus were then examined by a veterinarian who came to the same conclusion.

LUIS ADALBERTO NIETO, of Donna, was arrested on Friday, December 18, and charged with animal cruelty.

He was released the same day after he posted a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
