MATTHEW HYATT arrested for stabbing the family cat multiple times with an ice pick

Updated: Nov 2, 2020

- Virginia, Henrico County, USA -

On Wednesday evening, October 28, Henrico Police responded to a domestic dispute in a property in the 8900 block of Freestone Avenue in Henrico.

An investigation revealed that 63-year-old MATTHEW HYATT (pictured below), had stabbed the family cat multiple times with an ice pick, and that led to an argument between family members.

The furbaby was taken to a local veterinary clinic but the condition is unknown.

I have emailed Henrico County Chief of Police Colonel Eric D. English to inquire about the furbaby. If he responds I will post an update.

HYATT is facing animal cruelty charges and is scheduled to be arraigned on November 12.

UPDATE: October 31, 2020

Lieutenant Matthew Pecka has kindly responded to my inquiry about the cat’s wellbeing.

The furbaby, named Piper, was treated after being stabbed by HYATT and was then released after three days.
