After a dog was found wandering off North 12th Street and Marrow in Waco with a severe laceration on her neck, the McLennan County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation and The Heart of Texas Lost & Found Pets and Cribs For Canines groups offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to a criminal conviction.
Michelle Ann, president of Heart Of Texas Lost Found Pets/Cribsforcanines, said that the dog, now named Golden Girl, aka G.G., was found on February 18, 2023.
Someone had posted a picture of G.G. wandering the streets and Michelle drove to the location to pick her up. G.G. was not tagged or chipped.
Michelle told 6 News she immediately noticed G.G.’s collar was on too tight causing her serious injuries. “There were four to five more rivets or holes to loosen that collar with, there was absolutely no excuse for this one,” she said.
“I don’t know if it was placed on her as a puppy and they just never loosened it, but with how deep it was, I’m estimating at least 3 to 4 months like that,” Michelle told KWTX.
G.G. was in surgery less than an hour after she was picked up.
Michelle explained to KWTX that G.G. is in the care of a trusted veterinarian and will have to spend several weeks undergoing treatment, including, antibiotics, pain medications, and wound cleaning. No doubt G.G. faces a long road to recovery but once she is completely healed, “She'll go to the best home,” said Michelle.
McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara called this a “really bad case” and said to KWTX: “It just makes you sick thinking about the pain that this animal has been in for a long period of time. This isn’t just something that has happened in the last few days. It’s been going on for months and months.”
6 News reports that on February 21, 2023, the McLennan County Sheriff's Office confirmed to the news agency that G.G.’s guardian was found but no arrest has been made yet.
