MICHAEL SCOTT PHILLIPS intentionally ran down a group of antelope “because he hates pronghorn”

- Oregon, USA -

According to the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife (ODFW), 48-year-old MICHAEL SCOTT PHILLIPS (pictured below), intentionally ran down a group of antelope with his truck “because he hates pronghorn”.

On April 26, Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife troopers discovered the carcasses of five does and one deer pronghorn antelope strewn along Fossil Lake Road near Christmas Valley.

The deer's horns had been removed and taken as a trophy.

One doe was eviscerated with a knife and her unborn fawn was removed and placed on the mother’s body.

When the killing happened, it was fawning season, and the mom-to-be likely would have given birth within a month.

According to The Blue Mountain Eagle, the Oregon Sate Police Fish & Wildlife Division received a report about the killing through the Turn In Poachers Line.

Reportedly, the caller heard a male bragging about accelerating his pickup to hit several pronghorns, who were standing in the middle of the road.

According to the caller, the male then stated he left the scene get a hamburger, then returned later to retrieve the deer's horns.

This tip led troopers to PHILLIPS and a search warrant was served on his home in Christmas Valley.

Officials recovered the horns and other evidence linking him to the killing.

The Blue Mountain Eagle also reports that PHILLIPS “admitted that he accelerated to more than 60 mph to hit the antelope, and confirmed they were bunched together in the road. There was no evidence that he slowed down or tried to stop before striking the animals.”

The killer was arrested on May 21.

The antelope’s killer was charged with multiple counts of aggravated animal abuse, illegal take and possession of antelope and waste of a game animal.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

His trial is scheduled to begin in October.

Yvonne Shaw, Anti-Poaching Campaign Coordinator for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife said: “It really is a shame that this person has not only robbed the antelope of their lives but they’ve robbed all Oregonians of the opportunity to experience them whether that’s through hunting, or photography or hiking.”

Ms. Shaw, what is the difference between poaching and hunting?

They are just fancy words for killing, and they both result in the death of innocent animals!!!

Civil countries should consider as a crime taking the lives of innocent animals just like it is a crime to take the life of a person!!! Murder is murder!!!
