The El Paso Police Department says that on July 7, Animal Services were called to 2531 Morehead Avenue about a deceased dog who was tangled around a clothesline pole in direct sunlight.

Officers found a young male German shepherd named Eddie. Eddie was only 1-year-old!

The poor soul did not have access to shade or water.

A veterinarian examination revealed that Eddie likely died of heat stroke and dehydration.

In connection with Eddie’s death, 24-year-old MIGUEL ANGEL VALENCIA (pictured below), was arrested on Wednesday, July 22, and charged with cruelty to animals.

VALENCIA was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $5,000 bond.

El Paso Police Department wrote in a Facebook post that VALENCIA “had been previously cited by Animal Services for failure to provide shade/shelter, animal neglect and unlawful restraint of an animal.”

The Department reminds furbabies’ parents that those who fail to provide adequate shelter, food and water can be prosecuted.
