- Ohio, USA -
The precious life of an innocent dog ended because the person who was supposed to love him, decided he had to be punished.
On Saturday, August 7, a concerned neighbor dialed 911 to report that 58-years-old MOUHEB ASKAKIH (pictured below), had locked one of her dogs, a Pitbull named Chapo, inside a vehicle and the furbaby was struggling to get out.
Officers with the Sandusky Police Department were dispatched to the 1000 block of Perry Street and learned from the neighbor that he saw ASKAKIH put Chapo in the car 20 minutes prior to the call. He also told officers ASKAKIH had four more dogs inside her home.
“He stated he observed the dog tearing up the inside of the vehicle and it appeared he wanted out”, the report stated.
The report goes on to say: “He noticed all the windows were rolled up and he was concerned for the canine’s safety. He went over the residence and spoke to Mouheb through her side window. He told her to let the dog out, to which she replied, ‘I don’t care. I want him to die.’”
Sadly, by the time police arrived, it was too late to save the furbaby.
Officers smashed a window to open the car door and found Chapo at the rear passenger side floorboard.
At the time, the outside temperature was 81 degrees and all the car windows were up and the doors were locked.
Police said Chapo was stiff and hot to the touch when they pulled him out of the vehicle.
He was not breathing with no signs of life, and there was blood in the car and on his paws, indicating a struggle to free himself from the heat.
Sandusky Register reports that Sandusky Police Chief Jared Oliver said: “The dog was fighting for his life inside this car. The dog struggled inside the car but he was overcome by the heat. It's just terrible.”
When officers talked to ASKAKIH, she told them she put Chapo in the car after he had attacked one of her other dogs and she was punishing him.
ASKAKIH was arrested and charged with felony cruelty to animals.
According to Sandusky Register, after being detained, ASKAKIH made concerning statements, resulting in her being transferred to Firelands Regional Medical Center for a mental evaluation.
ASKAKIH was then transported back home after being cleared. She gave consent for officers and the Erie County dog warden, Barb Knapp, to remove the four remaining furbabies, a 2-years-old dog and three 6-months-old puppies.
ASKAKIH was taken to the Erie County Jail and held without bond.
She was due in court on Monday, August 9.
