UPDATE: August 10, 2021

Last month, RA’SHAE SYRTAJ JERMAINE JOHNSON (pictured below) pleaded guilty to three felonies after setting a small dog on fire in October 2020.

Judge Karen Phippes sentenced him to only three years in prison and ordered him to not have animals in his home for only 20 years.

KATV reports that in court JOHNSON claimed he didn't know how else to get rid of the dog.

JOHNSON also received twelve months on one count of arson and eighteen months on one count of open burning. Those sentences will run concurrently.

UPDATE: October 17, 2020

On Thursday, October 15, investigators learned Korra was last seen with 22-year-old RA’SHAE SYRTAJ JERMAINE JOHNSON (pictured below).

JOHNSON was then picked up for questioning and eventually confessed to setting fire to a crate while Korra was locked inside alive!

~ Original story:

Columbus Fire and Explosives Unit Investigators are reaching out to the public to identify the person(s) responsible for setting a puppy on fire.

The organization wrote in a Facebook post that on October 11, “between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., a small puppy was set on fire while in her plastic cage/crate. The fire occurred in Walnut Hill Park on the East side of Columbus, near Walnut Hill Road and Saranac Drive.”

The post continues to read: “Firefighters responded to the park just after noon and found a small area of melted plastic on fire underneath a tree in the park. As firefighters were extinguishing the fire, they observed a small yellow/ blond puppy with white feet, and a white flea collar, running in the area. The firefighters realized that the puppy had black plastic melted to her back and realized the puppy had been in the cage. The fire fighters transported the puppy to the Diley Hill Animal Medical Center where she was treated for her burn injuries. The puppy was adopted by staff at the animal hospital, and is doing remarkably well.”

The 3-month-old furbaby has already been adopted and her new family named her Korra.

Fire Investigator Mike DeFrancisco said: “As fire investigators, this is heart-wrenching and sickening for us. We see a lot of bad things on a daily basis, but this has cut a lot of our people to the core.”

Together with the Columbus Humane Society, fire investigators are investigating this senseless and heinous crime and a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered.

Do you recognize the furbaby pictured below? Do you have information related to this case?

If so, please come forward and speak up!

Korra cannot tell us who did this to her but those who know must talk on her behalf.

Maybe you were at the park that day and you saw something, or you probably filmed something with your phones. Every little detail can help.

Please call the Columbus Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit at (614) - 645 - 3011. Thank you!
