- California, USA -
On the afternoon of Thursday, March 25, deputies from San Dimas station responded to the 1400 block of Renwick Street near Lone Hill Park about a call of an assault with a deadly weapon in progress.
Upon arrival, deputies found a woman, later identified as 66-year-old Jeanne Ann Edgar,
lying unresponsive in the street.
Ms. Edgar appeared to have sustained multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Next to her, was lying lifeless her female dog named Sashi.
Deputies learned that a “crazed man” started stabbing Sashi for no reason and when Ms. Edgar tried to intervene, she was stabbed to death.
The murderer was identified as 23-year-old RICARDO SALDIVAR (pictured below).
SALDIVAR grabbed Sashi by the leash and yanked her free of her grasp.
Before stabbing Sashi and her mom, SALDIVAR had attempted to stab a man, Joe Cohen, who had parked his truck and was walking through the park toward the public restroom.
When Joe saw SALDIVAR walking toward him wielding a knife, he turned around and ran away.
When SALDIVAR saw Ms. Edgar walking Sashi, he stopped chasing Joe and moved on to his next victims.
While Ms. Edgar was being stabbed, Joe managed to strike SALDIVAR with a rock, made him unconscious, and held him until deputies arrived.
SALDIVAR was taken into custody and booked at San Dimas Sheriff's Station after receiving medical treatment for a head injury.
He was charged with murder and attempted murder.
SALDIVAR remains in custody in lieu of 2 million dollars bail.
His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, March 30, 2021.
Online records show that SALDIVAR has a court appearance on May 11, 2021, at Pomona Superior Court.
