On the afternoon of Thursday, May 13, the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office arrested 58-year-old ROBERT GREEN (pictured below).
An investigation was launched after a female 6-month-old puppy was found severely malnourished and injured.
Lt. Welch with the Rogers County Sheriff found the furbaby and took her to a rescue in Owasso.
She was named Nellie.
Lt. Welch told NewsOn6: “Nellie was in pretty bad condition, maybe one of the worst conditions we've ever seen. She was severely emaciated.”
Lt. Welch explained: “What a lot of the public doesn't realize is that Rogers County doesn't have an animal control service, so the sheriff's office has to act like an animal control service, and we have very limited resources.”
Wild Heart Ranch, an animal rescue north of Claremore, heard about the case and the lack of funds so turned to the community for help toward Nellie’s medical bills.
In a matter of hours more than $5,000 was raised.
Sadly, Nellie died a few days later.
Ms. Annette King, who runs Wild Heart Ranch, had more than $4,000 left from the fundraiser and she told NewsOn6 that she plans to give the money to the Roger's County Sheriff's Office to use towards helping future animals.
Meanwhile, Lt. Welch assumed the investigation and identified a suspect.
Before serving an arrest warrant for GREEN, the sheriff’s office told NewsOn6 that the suspect is a Native American so this case will be handled in federal or tribal court.
Online records show GREEN is slated to be in court on June 1, at 10:00 a.m.
