The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 35-years-old ROOSEVELT CHANDLER JR. (pictured).
On Sunday, December 17, 2023, deputies responded to a flooded lot off Highmarket Street after receiving reports of a dog barking in distress.
Upon arrival, deputies found a helpless dog who was “chained to a tree and standing in water up to her shoulders”, said the sheriff’s office.
According to a media release by the sheriff's office, a “deputy waded into the water and removed the dog’s chain. A leash was attached to her collar, and she was placed in a patrol car.”
The deputies who responded to the scene noted in the report that “The doghouse provided for the animal was submerged to the point where only approximately a couple of inches of the opening of the house could be seen.”
Since the road to St. Frances Animal Center was flooded, rain was still falling heavily at the time of the call, deputies took the Voiceless Victim back to the sheriff’s office where they fed her and gave her water and a kennel.
The following day, the furbaby was taken to St. Francis Animal Center, where she is currently being housed.
Deputies were later connected with a man, identified as CHANDLER, who admitted the dog was his. He further admitted to leaving the dog outside and told deputies that when he returned the following day and did not see her, he figured she had gotten off the chain.
A Georgetown County magistrate judge issued a warrant for animal cruelty and CHANDLER was arrested and booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center. His bond was set at $2,500.
