In November 2021, an animal control officer informed the Nye County Sheriff’s Office that an individual identified as RYAN HOWARD (pictured below) performed an illegal medical procedure on a goat at a residence along West Piltz Road.
HOWARD had performed the procedure without a veterinary medical license, in violation of Nevada Revised Statutes.
Deputy Michael Tulipat was dispatched to the property in question and learned that HOWARD had been contacted by a woman who said that her goat was suffering from an unknown medical condition and would have to be euthanized.
“Ryan offered services that only a licensed veterinarian should have performed”, reported Deputy Tulipat.
HOWARD applied a topical ointment on the goat’s pizzle (penis) and then proceeded to make an incision before completely removing the organ.
According to Deputy Tulipat, “On Ryan’s Facebook photo, you can see a female with black and red nail polish, holding the goat down.”
That female was identified as TERESITA URENDA (also pictured below), HOWARD’s fiancée.
Deputy Tulipat questioned the couple and they both admitted to performing the unlawful veterinary procedure.
The poor goat was removed and examined by a licensed veterinarian who then reported back to Deputy Tulipat: “The doctor stated the procedure that was performed was inhumane and torture. The unlawful procedure should not have been performed without a licensed veterinarian. The procedure did not fix the medical condition, and the goat suffered unjustifiable pain and substantial bodily harm.”
HOWARD and URENDA were placed under arrest and transported to the Nye County Detention Center on charges of animal torture and practicing veterinary medicine without a license.
HOWARD is slated to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 13, 2022.
URENDA was scheduled to be arraigned in Pahrump Justice Court on March 8, but at this time of writing I have not found any updates.
She faces up to only a year in jail if convicted.
District Attorney Chris Arabia said that there is a third person who is also facing charges related to this case, JENNIFER WALKER.
WALKER was also scheduled to be arraigned on March 8.
I have emailed District Attorney Chris Arabia and requested additional information about the goat as well as this case. I will post an update if I get a response.
On an unrelated note, Pahrump Valley Times reports that in 2021, HOWARD was charged with sexual assault against a child under 16, child sexual abuse with substantial mental and bodily harm, and incest.
Additionally, HOWARD was also involved in an incident at Desert View Hospital where he brandished a knife and began wielding the weapon toward doctors and staff.
