Seagull euthanized after being dragged by a rope around his/her tiny neck

- United Kingdom -

On the evening of Monday, April 10, 2023, Lancashire Police responded to a report about a man who was witnessed dragging a live seagull on Bispham Road in Blackpool.

A video posted on Twitter by user Mick Moore, shows the seagull with a rope around his/her tiny neck.

In an email, Police told me that responding officers arrested the suspect, a male in his 50, for being drunk and disorderly. The unnamed suspect was subsequently "de-arrested".

Police tell me that the incident is being investigated.

As for the Voiceless Victim, a member of the public took the seagull to a local veterinarian where he/she was euthanized.

The apparent cruelty towards the seagull bird has been slammed by the wildlife rescue Brambles Wildlife Rescue. In a Facebook post the organization said: “A number of people contacted us about the image and video circulating on social media of an extremely vile person dragging a seagull on a lead at Bispham Roundabout in Blackpool and in another location on the pavement. We have spoken with Lancashire Constabulary who are dealing with this and are aware of the identity and location of the person involved.”

The nonprofit was flooded with comments by people expressing concern for the bird to the extent that they advised: “Turning comments off now folks because [it’s] consuming our evening removing some moronic comments and blocking idiots with cotton wool for brains 😉”

Bless this poor seagull. As far as the nasty comments, no they are not idiots. Most are just sick & tired of animal cruelty. Humans are capable of disgusting cruelty & to be ‘nice & polite’ regarding these monsters is difficult at best. I am guilty as charged for letting my emotions rule in the favor of ALL VOICELESS VICTIMS for which I offer no apologies. Bless you seagull. You have a soul & experience fear, pain, & love.
