The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office said that on October 3, 2024, deputies learned about several dogs missing from their homes in the Simms area.
One of the dogs’ guardians reported that a possible suspect lived in the area and after an investigation was launched, Investigator Carrier met with the reporting party.
Investigator Carrier obtained social media posts related to the missing animals and the investigation led officials to the home of 23-year-old STUART DUNCAN HAMMONDS (pictured), and his girlfriend.
According to the press release by the sheriff’s office obtained by Voice For Us, when deputies arrived at the home, “They immediately recognized the odor of decaying animals.” The press release went on to say: “There were also several animal carcasses (7) around the residence and barn area of the property.”
Skeletal remains led to the identification of twelve dogs who were deceased on HAMMOND’s property.
The sheriff’s office said that some of the dogs had obvious head trauma consistent with being shot by a firearm.
From a further investigation it emerged that HAMMONDS killed four of the dogs during fits of rage while arguing with his girlfriend.
Officials believe HAMMONDS acquired the dogs by picking them up while running loose or by adopting them through social media posts.
A witness has confirmed to the sheriff’s office that HAMMONDS has murdered all of the dogs.
As a result, warrants were issued for HAMMONDS’ arrest and on October 15, 2024, he was taken into custody.
At the time of writing, online arrest records show that the murderer is behind bars at the Bowie County Jail facing twelve counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals. His bond has been set at $100,000
