On the evening of Tuesday, February 15, Kansas City police went to a home in the 7300 block of Indiana Avenue for a reported disturbance. The call came from a woman claiming that “the devil was trying to attack her.”
On the front steps of the residence, officers noticed what appeared to be blood. They later determined there was a female inside the home but she refused to answer the door.
WOWT reports that officers could hear a woman singing inside the residence and as they knocked, the woman sang even louder.
According to a press release issued by Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, officers then observed inside what appeared to be a severed head near the residence's entrance so they forced their way in.
They found 35-years-old TASHA HAEFS (pictured below) who was covered in blood and had two knives.
Officers discovered the severed head of a 6-year-old child. His body was located in the kitchen.
In the basement, police discovered a decapitated dog.
The woman told police the child, Karvel Stevens, was her son and admitted to the killing.
HAEFS was taken into custody and charged with murder 1st Degree and armed criminal action.
She is being held in Jackson County on no bond.
I have emailed the Jackson County DA’s Office to find out whether HAEFS will be also facing animal cruelty charges. I have additionally requested more information about the dog. If I get a response, I will post an update.
