On February 12, 2023, the Bound Brook Police Department took to Facebook an appeal to the public for assistance with an animal cruelty case.

On February 11, 2023, a citizen called police and reported that a dog had been abandoned. Officers responded to the area of West Second Street and Hardy Avenue and learned from the caller that a dark colored Ford Escape pulled to the side of the road to let the dog loose. Police posted pictures of the vehicle.

Bound Brook Police Department’s Humane Law Enforcement Officer Patrolman Philip Gatti assumed the investigation and learned that 27-years-old TIMISHA SMITH-POWELL and 27-years-old YUSAN POWELL “placed the dog in the rear of their vehicle before departing their residence. A short time later, the vehicle pulled to the side of the road and the rear passenger door was opened by an occupant of the vehicle. At this time the dog was led out of the vehicle before it pulled away.”

On February 20, 2023, the pair were charged with animal cruelty and disorderly conduct.

Additionally, both lowlives were charged with the following Borough Ordinance Violations:

Dog running at large

Dog not on leash

Failure to have dog registered

Abandonment of personal property

Interference with a Boro Official

The duo are scheduled to appear in municipal court on March 7, 2023.

Police said the voiceless victim was turned over to Animal Control Solutions.

First I want to express how relieved I am that this poor soul was found before any more harm beset him/her, although his/her right eye looks to be hurt. I too believe these low lives must be held responsible for abandoning this beautiful baby, I dread the fact that he/she is now at Animal Control. Please do not fail this baby again.
