The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that following numerous complaints from different individuals, an investigation was opened on July 30, into the possible mistreatment of a herd of cattle at Yuma County Road HH and County Road 54.

On August 2, the sheriff’s office served a search warrant at that location to determine the status of the herd with the assistance of a certified veterinarian.

It emerged that approximately 20% of the herd was suffering from neglect, malnutrition, and were extremely thin and emaciated.

On August 20, deputies arrested TIMOTHY ORTNER (pictured below).

The news release states that ORTNER was charged with “25 counts of 18-9-202(1)(a) Cruelty to animals and 25 counts of 35-42-109(1) Protection of animals – Mistreated, neglected or abandoned.”
