UPDATE on Toby’s death.

The sweet and innocent 9-year-old Pomeranian poodle mix was shot on September 17, on Greenwood Avenue and euthanized the following day.

Police have in custody the shooter, 64-year-old WILLIAM STROEMEL.

He lives around the corner from Toby’s family home.

STROEMEL, was charged with animal cruelty, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

NBC10 reports that on September 23, during a search warrant on STROEMEL’s home, police found a .22 caliber pistol and he was charged with weapons offenses.

On Wednesday, September 25, following a necropsy performed on Toby, more charges were filed against the accused.

The pellet removed from Toby’s head was determined to have come from an air rifle in possession of the shooter when the furbaby was shot.

Reportedly, STROEMEL gave the gun to an acquaintance and asked him to hold it for him.

STROEMEL is currently in the Burlington County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.
