On November 24, 2023, the president of Animals Matter of Clearfield County alerted the authorities to a dog who was found muzzled with a shoestring and shot in the head.
According to a press release by State Police in Clearfield, the dog, an English Mastiff male named Duke, was found on Steep Hill Road in Greenwood Township.
Police said Duke was in “deplorable health” and was first taken to VCA Metzger Animal Hospital in State College and then transferred to Blue Pear Pet Hospital in Pittsburgh.
It was later confirmed that Duke had a gunshot wound to the head.
As part of the investigation, police conducted interviews and three individuals are now facing charges in connection with this heinous case. As stated in the release, “The three suspects admitted to the acts of animal cruelty during the interviews.”
Police have not released the names of these filths, but according to the release, the parties involved are a 60-year-old man, a 31-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old male, all Mahaffey residents.
The trio are now facing charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and conspiracy among others.
