UPDATE on 63-year-old JOHN DAVID MCCORDIC (pictured below), accused of viciously beating his girlfriend’s deaf and blind dog in 2016.
On Monday, August 10, in a Vancouver court, MCCORDIC pleaded guilty and was slapped with a $4,000 fine.
This socially useless individual was also sentenced to a seven-year ban on having custody or control of animals.
~ Original story:
On May 18, 2016, the BC SPCA received a call about security footage from the underground parking garage of a building on East Hastings Street that captured MCCORDIC attacking a dog.
The furbaby, an 11-year-old female Bouvier named Bear, was already blind and partially deaf.
The video footage shows the monster repeatedly lifting Bear several feet into the air by her legs and slamming her onto the concrete.
MCCORDIC did not stop there.
He continued to inflict more torture on a disabled being unable to defend herself.
He then stomped on Bear’s paws and head as she tried to escape.
The coward proceeded to kick Bear in her face several times and he heartlessly laughed as she struggled.
Eileen Drever, of the BC SPCA, said: “I think one of the cruelest parts of the video is that he would start to pet her and she would be encouraged and would come to him, only to have the beatings begin again.”
The BC SPCA immediately seized Bear and rushed her for emergency treatment of her injuries.
Despite the injuries inflicted by the beatings, and her on-going health issues, the organization was able to adopt the sweet soul into a loving and caring new home.
At the beginning of this year, after spending four years surrounded by much deserved love, Bear sadly passed away at the age of 15.
I firmly believe that by handing down lenient sentences to animal abusers, judges are effectively contributing and condoning the abuse and/or the end of a life.
This case is just another example of an animal cruelty case that was treated as lightly as a parking ticket violation!!!
Furthermore, the judge undermined the efforts of all the people involved to bring this case to court.
It would help if part of the sentence required that animal abusers experienced the same suffering they inflicted on their defenseless victims.
Judges, you have the power to be on the voiceless’ side, use it or get another job!!!
