There is an update on 40-year-old SALVADOR CARBAJAL GARCIA (pictured below).
On Wednesday, February 5, following a two-day trial in Lee County court SALVADOR CARBAJAL GARCIA was found guilty of aggravated animal cruelty.
After the trial the defendant was taken into custody to await sentencing.
Back in March 2019, Lee County Domestic Animal Services were called about a dog tethered to a basketball post in the driveway of a home in the 700 block of Palmetto Avenue in Lehigh Acres.
The responding officer found a brown and white dog with a makeshift leash-collar that became embedded into the poor dog’s skin.
The furbaby, named Walter, had been trying to get under the BMW parked in the driveway for shelter.
The leash was not long enough to reach the bottom of the vehicle and this caused the wounds on his neck.
A shelter was not the only necessity that GARCIA did not provide his dog with.
Walter did not have food and water either.
The pup was taken to a veterinary clinic and he needed surgery to remove the rope that was tightened around his neck.
It was so severe that it caused deep wounds that became swollen and infected.
GARCIA signed away custody of the pup.
A veterinarian testified at the trial and said that Walter’s wound was at least 25 days old.
GARCIA will be back in court March 2, 2020 for sentencing.
I need to remind you that when GARCIA was arrested in 2019, there was one disturbing piece of information revealed by the arrest report.
Lee County Domestic Animal Services had received tethering complaints since June 12, 2012 for Walter illegally being tethered on GARCIA's property.
So, the question is: Why was Walter left with this criminal in those conditions all that time and no one did not do anything about it?
I need to stress once again the importance of keeping an eye on our neighbor’s furbabies and report any episodes of animal cruelty!
