Parkersburg Police Chief Scott Elliott said that on the night of Monday, December 27, 31-years-old ZOHN JOSEPH-DOMINICK KELLY (pictured below) was involved in an altercation with a resident at a home in the 800 block of 7th Street.
During the argument with KELLY, the resident’s dog intervened in her/his defense.
Like a true coward who goes after those who cannot fight back, KELLY then shot the resident’s dog.
The Parkersburg News and Sentinel reports that the complaint stated: “The dog was protecting the victim, who was also in the line of fire when (Kelly) pulled a handgun out, shooting the dog in the right side of the back midway down.”
According to WTAP, when a Parkersburg Police officer arrived at the scene, the dog was badly injured but alive.
As reported by The Parkersburg News and Sentinel, the dog’s bullet wounds were treated but it is unknown whether or not the furbaby survived. I have emailed Chief Elliott to inquire about the furbaby’s wellbeing. Hopefully, I will know more if he responds.
Police said KELLY fled the scene but was quickly located and taken into custody.
KELLY, of 915 15th Street in Parkersburg, was charged with animal cruelty and wanton endangerment, but police say other charges related to the shooting are being considered.
KELLY was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court the following day and was given a $55,000 surety bond.
Online records show he is being held at the North Central Regional Jail.
Chief Elliott said that KELLY is also wanted in Washington County, Ohio on a community control violation.
