I have heard back from City of San Bernardino Animal Services and learned that “Ember’s recovery is coming along, the wounds on her face, ears and feet are healing very well – the wound on her back is taking some time to get better. Ember’s foster caretaker works at the vet’s office, so [Ember] is getting much needed care and support to heal.”
As for the other puppy, a male named Coal (pictured), Animal Services said that he “is doing well – he was neutered today and will be ready for adoption as soon as he is released from the investigation hold.”
The San Bernardino Police Department is investigating the case.

The City of San Bernardino needs the public’s assistance in finding the evil individual(s) responsible for an egregious act of animal cruelty.
In a Facebook post, City of San Bernardino Animal Services said that on April 4, 2024, they were called to a veterinary office on West Highland Avenue after two puppies were found abandoned in its parking lot.
Upon arrival, Animal Services Officers found two Labrador retriever mix puppies, approximately 3 months old.
One of the two puppies, a female now named Ember, “had what appeared to be burns” to her face, ears, and body.
Both Voiceless Victims were quickly brought back to the San Bernardino Animal Shelter for assessment. The veterinary technicians who examined Ember determined that she had suffered severe injuries that needed to be treated by a veterinarian. So, Ember and the other furvictim were taken to the Shelter’s contract veterinarian.
Ember “required immediate hospitalization and treatment due to the severity of her injuries”, said Animal Services. The agency further said that “The burns Ember suffered are severe. Based upon how and where the puppies were found, it is believed this may have been an intentional act of animal cruelty. The vet has determined the injuries and wounds were likely caused by fire.”
According to Animal Services, although Ember “is not out of the woods”, she continues to show improvement.
The other puppy was cleared by the veterinarian.
These two precious souls cannot tell us who is responsible for the monstrosity inflicted upon them. Unlike humans, animals cannot dial 911 and ask for help! Animals rely on witnesses to be rescued and receive justice. So, anyone with information regarding this case is asked to do the right thing and speak up.
