Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones announced that on December 4, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dog Warden Division arrested 31-years-old KATIE RENE STILL (pictured), of Hanover Township.
Deputy Dog Wardens conducted an animal welfare check at a property in the 6000 block of Oxford Milford Road where they found a deceased Pitbull mix in a crate and a live horse who was severely emaciated.
As stated in court documents, “The crate had barely enough room for the dog to lay.” The dog was on his/her side and “far into decomposition.” Documents further stated that the condition of the dog appeared as if he/she “had starved to death.”
According to court documents, the horse “was unstable and skin and bones and had obviously not been fed on a regular basis.”
In addition to the dead dog and the horse, Deputy Dog Wardens found and removed a pig and three other dogs due to their condition.
According to a criminal complaint, STILL arrived at the scene at about 1:00 p.m. and told the Deputy Dog Wardens that “she had not been out to the property to care for the animals in at least a week” and the poor souls had not been checked on or fed.
STILL was booked at the Butler County Jail on one count of prohibitions concerning companion animals and cruelty to animals. She was released after posting bond.
Sheriff Jones advised that the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
Animal Friends Humane Society are reaching out to the community requesting help for the abused horse. The shelter needs Alfalfa Cubes, Soft Hay, and Monetary Donations. If you wish and can afford to help out, please visit their Facebook page. Thank you!
Authorities did not disclose the name of the deceased furbaby, so I took the liberty of naming him/her Nuvola for the tribute image. Should his/her given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.
