On June 27, 2024, Bexar County Animal Control Services alerted the Bexar County Sheriff's Office to an animal cruelty case at a residence in the 7800 block of Fossil Banks on the northwest side of San Antonio.

Residents reported seeing rats around the residence, and dogs who were not being properly cared for.

On June 29, 2024, deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office responded to the given address and encountered the homeowner, 57-year-old MICHAEL MOORE (pictured).

According to the press release by the sheriff’s office, when deputies opened the door, they were “immediately struck by a strong odor of urine and feces.”

While speaking with MOORE, deputies saw deplorable living conditions inside the residence with the living room floor covered “in what appeared to be a foot-high layer of animal feces”, stated the release.

Deputies also saw that several dogs were living in those inhumane conditions. Sadly, one dog was found deceased in the kitchen.

Bexar County Animal Control, the City of San Antonio Animal Control, and Bexar County Fire Hazmat were called to the scene and with their assistance deputies removed twenty-six (26) dogs.

The Voiceless Victims were taken to a local veterinarian to be examined and medical reports showed the majority suffered from “poor body weight, visible spines and ribs, urine stains on their fur, and feces encrusted in their paws and nails”, according to the release.

MOORE was placed under arrest and booked into the Bexar County Jail on charges of cruelty to non-livestock animals for failing to provide necessary food, water, care, or shelter; abandonment; transporting in a cruel manner; bodily injury; or overworking the animal.

MOORE was released after posting a $2,000 bail.

The sheriff’s office advised that additional charges are forthcoming and have not been ruled out as the outcome of the dogs’ medical examinations are pending.

At the time of writing, the sheriff’s office has not come back to me with the information I requested about the dog who was found dead. So, I took the liberty of naming him/her Leaf for the tribute image. Should his/her given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.

The Fort Bend Precinct 1 Constable’s Office arrested 31-year-old PENGFEI JI (pictured).

On the evening of June 28, 2024, deputies responded to an urgent veterinarian clinic in Cinco Ranch after receiving a report of an injured dog.

From an investigation it emerged that during an argument with his wife, JI caused injuries to his wife’s Teacup Pomeranian that resulted in the death of the defenseless dog named Puling.

The incident happened at a house on the 26000 block of Splendid Sunset Trail in the Candela neighborhood, in Richmond.

Surveillance cameras at the couple's home showed JI grabbing Puling by the rear legs and swinging him/her over his head. The heartbreaking video goes on to show JI slamming Puling into a doghouse several times before discarding him/her into the yard. Puling was pronounced dead at the veterinarian’s office.

The Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Constable's Office said JI accused his wife of loving the dog more than she loved him.

JI was placed under arrest and booked into the Fort Bend County Jail on a third-degree felony charge of cruelty to non-livestock animals. At the time of writing, arrest records show that the murderer is still behind bars on a $10,000 bail.

In a statement, Constable Chad Norvell said: “I’m glad we were able to put him in jail and that he’ll face justice for his horrendous actions. I send my condolences to his wife on the loss of her precious companion”.

I have emailed the Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Constable's Office and requested additional information about the Voiceless Victim. If I receive a response, I will post an update.

The San Juan Police Department arrested 21-years-old JACOB LUNA (pictured).

LUNA is accused of strangling a dog to death and then dumping the Voiceless Victim’s body into a trash can. The furvictim was an 11-year-old Pug named Max.

Max’s family reported the incident to the San Juan Police Department after home security footage showed a man trespass onto their property and harm their dog.

Police said the video “shows an individual unlawfully entering her property, aggressively handling the dog in a manner that suggested harm, and then removing the animal from the premises.”

The non-profit Yaqui Animal Rescue uploaded the footage to their Facebook page in hopes of finding the male.

LUNA was taken into custody on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

When investigators interviewed LUNA, he confessed to taking Max and strangling him before tossing the body in a nearby trash can. By the time the murderer was interviewed, the trash truck had already passed that morning. According to police, LUNA emphasized he felt “alive” while harming Max.

The murderer was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail on charges of animal cruelty, criminal trespassing, theft, and tampering with evidence.

The day after his arrest, the murderer was arraigned and a judge set a $104,000 bond. Records show LUNA was released on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
