The Dracut Police Department announced that 36-year-old ANTHONY SEGNINI has been charged with animal cruelty in connection with the death of his roommate’s dog.
Police said in a press release that SEGNINI was indicted by a Middlesex County Grand Jury in September 2024, and was arraigned on October 24, 2024, in Middlesex Superior Court where he pleaded not guilty to an animal cruelty charge.
On December 11, 2023, officers with the Dracut Police Department were dispatched to a home on Sunset Road for a report of possible animal cruelty.
Officers learned that SEGNINI’s roommate returned home from work to find her 8-year-old 8-pound Yorkshire Terrier named Seamus in his playpen unresponsive. Seamus was covered with a blanket, blood, and feces. The woman also found blood, urine, and feces on the carpet and walls of the living room. She took Seamus to Wignall Animal Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A necropsy was performed on Seamus and results showed Seamus died of severe blunt trauma from a blow to the head and also sustained bone fractures, a collapsed lung, and other injuries as a result of being struck intentionally and repeatedly.
From the investigation it emerged that SEGNINI was responsible for causing those injuries to Seamus.
According to prosecutors, SEGNINI told his roommate that when he woke up to go to work, Seamus was unresponsive and that he attempted CPR on him before covering him with a blanket and leaving.
At his arraignment, SEGNINI was ordered released on personal recognizance and ordered to have no direct or indirect contact with Seamus’ guardian and residence, no unsupervised contact with the animal residing at his residence and to possess no animals.
SEGNINI is scheduled back in court on November 21, 2024.
