Baden Police arrested 29-years-old DI XIAO (pictured) for leaving her dog in extreme heat who then had to be euthanized.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 15, police responded to a property on 970 Collins Avenue Court regarding a dog complaint.
Upon arrival, at the rear of the residence police found a Siberian Husky named Noki.
Noki was tied up and muzzled. The furbaby was in extreme distress and lethargic. As if the scenario was not cruel and heartbreaking enough, there was no sign of water or shade for the poor soul!
XIAO then came out and police asked her to take the muzzle off Noki.
Reportedly, she tried to give Noki some water but the furbaby was too tired to even try to drink.
Noki was taken to the Big Rock Veterinary Hospital in New Brighton.
Sadly, due to complications from heat stroke, Noki was euthanized. Noki went into a seizure and began bleeding due to his/her organs failing.
Hospital staff told police Noki was “cooked from the inside”, and that his/her internal temperature didn’t initially even read on the thermometer, before reading at 109.3 degrees.
Under Pennsylvania’s “Libre’s Law” which took effect on August 28, 2017, dogs must have access to shade or water when outside, and it prohibits keeping dogs out for longer than a half hour when the temperature is 90 degrees.
XIAO told Beaver County Humane Officer Tristan Wenzig that she had not checked in on the dog for two hours beforehand.
A neighbor, Ms. Eda Giordani, told CBS News that she had called the Humane Society “over 6 months ago because neighbors were saying the dog was crying was without water.”
To that, Officer Wenzig responded that he did go to the house about a year ago for a complaint about the dog living in bad conditions.
“The dog was supposedly living outside in bad conditions, but during my investigation, I didn't find anything wrong. I found a very healthy, fun-loving dog that knew a lot of tricks”, he said.
Officer Wenzig told Pittsburgh Action News: “Whenever I go to calls, people tell me these animals are like family, like their children. Treat them like your children then.”
Court papers show that the soulless and heartless female is charged with a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals – torture, a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals – causing death, one misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals, and two misdemeanor counts of neglect to animals.
XIAO was booked into the Beaver County Prison after failing to post a $2,500 bail.
Her preliminary hearing is set for June 27, 2022, at 8:45 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Dirk A. Goodwald.
