The Haralson County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-years-old CHRISTOPHER LEWIS MEIXNER after animals on his property were found either dead or malnourished.

According to a press release by the sheriff’s office obtained by Voice For Us, on Sunday, June 18, 2023, deputies were dispatched to a property on 131 Cherokee Circle in Buchanan about animal cruelty. Upon arrival, Deputy Gerlach met with Animal Control Officer Camp and was advised that there had been a complaint at this address of animals not being cared for.

Officers found two Great Pyrenees. One was sadly dead and appeared to have been deceased for a few days. The second one was alive but looked very malnourished. Both furbabies had been kept on a leash unable to move.

Officers then saw “an unknown breed of puppies running around the yard that were so thin, their ribs were showing”, stated the release.

As officers walked around the yard, they saw “multiple pens with various animals, some of the pens had no food or water, one pen had a green colored liquid in a small pool but no food.

They also saw a duck walking around who appeared to have injured feet and an injured wing.

The inspection of the yard sadly also led to the discovery of a deceased chicken and a deceased duck.

Deputy Gerlach reported that there was no grass in the yard. Junk and trash were laying around, and the pens were in terrible condition.

According to the release, at the time MEIXNER was not home but Deputy Gerlach was able to obtain an arrest warrant for him.

On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, Sgt. Lee Bauder, Deputy Jon Henderson, Deputy Jarrett Chandler, and Deputy Nathan Camp returned to the property and placed MEIXNER under arrest. He was transported to the Haralson Count Detention Center on Aggravated Animal Cruelty and Animal Cruelty charges.

As stated in the release, the “other animals in this case have been removed from the property.”

Haralson County Sheriff Stacy Williams said in a statement: “This is a terrible case of animal cruelty. If you own an animal, whether it be livestock or domesticated, it is your responsibility to care for them. We will not put up with animal cruelty in this county.”

Let’s hope the judge who will be presiding over this case feels the same!

Authorities did not disclose the names of the deceased furbabies, so I took the liberty of naming them Moonflower, Starflower, and Sundrop for the tribute image. Should their given names be made public, I will rectify them accordingly.
