Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds announced that following a guilty plea to third-degree animal cruelty, 24-years-old KYLE A. BLYTHE (pictured) was sentenced on August 24, 2022, to 364 days in the Atlantic County Jail and five years of probation following his release.

Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Pamela D’Arcy also ordered BLYTHE to complete community service and to not own or co-domicile with any animals as a condition of his probation.

Reynolds said that the five-year term of probation is the maximum allowed by law.

On December 10, 2020, BLYTHE, of Linwood, was arrested and charged with third-degree animal cruelty as a result of an investigation by the Linwood Police Department.

According to a news release by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, staff at the Absecon Veterinary Hospital contacted the police after they treated BLYTHE’s dog, for severe head trauma.

The furbaby, a 4-month-old female Pitbull puppy named Dolce (Italian for sweet), “presented with numerous signs of blunt force trauma to her head and body”, stated the release.

Sadly, Dolce later died due to the atrocious injuries inflicted on her.

An investigation revealed that BLYTHE “had become angry with Dolce after she chewed up some of his clothing and then beat her, causing severe brain injuries which led to her death.”

According to an article by Breaking AC published on December 18, 2020, the affidavit stated that BLYTHE did not seek medical treatment for Dolce after he beat her, instead, he dropped her at a friend’s home.

Breaking AC identified BLYTHE’s friend as Colby Patroni, who at the time was 19 years old and was working at the Absecon Veterinary Hospital while going to Stockton University full time.

When Patroni lived in Maryland, she was an ASPCA volunteer.

Patroni said she thought she was helping a friend with a sick puppy and said: “At first, I thought she was scared because she was in a strange place without her owner.”

But then Dolce started throwing up blood so she said she rushed the furbaby to her job to get help. According to Patroni, once at the hospital, she learned what was really wrong with the pup.

She said: “The doctor said the dog had major trauma, bleeding in her lungs, behind her eyes, in her brain and suffered two fractured ribs.”

The vet asked Patroni what had happened to Dolce and she was not able to answer so she called BLYTHE who told her two different stories.

Patroni was not criminally charged but when she returned to work the following day, she was fired for involvement with an animal cruelty case.

On August 21, 2022, the Claremont Police Department arrested 62-years-old BRIAN KEITH RUMLER (pictured), a retired Seminole County teacher, after he murdered his new girlfriend’s son’s dog with a baseball bat.

According to the arrest report, RUMLER told police he was on the couch when the dog, a 6-year-old Labrador mix named Fenway, “ran up to [him] and bit at his left hand.”

The report goes on to say that RUMLER then went to the garage where Fenway followed him “in a curious manner.”

Police said that RUMLER “Grabbed a red and gold baseball bat, walked back inside, and observed [Fenway] in the front room area looking at him.”

RUMLER struck Fenway on his head, killing him instantly, and walked away.

As stated in the report: “The blow that was delivered to [Fenway's] skull caused him to die upon impact.”

RUMLER then put the bat back in the garage and wrapped Fenway in a large blue tarp.

Police said that “There was a reasonable amount of time from when [Fenway] bit him to when he walked into the garage, losing sight of the dog,” therefore, when RUMLER struck Fenway, the act was not in self-defense.

Animal Control responded to the scene and determined that Fenway “was not actively attacking Brian Rumler when he was walking to the garage.”

RUMLER claimed that this was the second time that Fenway had bitten him and that it happened before in May.

Brian Velms, Fenway’s dad, told FOX 35 Orlando that he got Fenway as a puppy. He was only one month old when he became part of their family and now, he’s gone with a swing of a bat.

Online court records show that the filthy murderer was booked into the Lake County Jail on one felony count of aggravated animal cruelty. He was free a few hours later after posting a $2,000 bond.

According to online court records, RUMLER’s court appearance has been scheduled for September 19, 2022, at 8:30 a.m.

Voice For Us believes that animal abusers should not benefit from the option of paying bail/bond after their arrest, but should remain in jail until their first court appearance!

35-years-old TRAVIS MARK DAUVIN appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on August 15, 2022, in relation to the death of his ex-girlfriend’s dog.

DAUVIN pleaded guilty to willfully and without lawful excuse, killing a dog.

The furbaby, a small Maltese named Jake, was murdered by DAUVIN on May 17, 2020, when DAUVIN went to pick him up and claimed that Jake had bitten him.

DAUVIN violently threw Jake into a metal clothing rack. The furbaby started bleeding from his mouth, suffered four broken ribs, kidney damage, a punctured lung, and bruising around his neck and thorax. Sadly, even after surgery to try to save his precious life, Jake died from his injuries.

Global News reports that as a result of the guilty plea, DAUVIN gave up his right for a trial.

The defense called for a conditional discharge which would leave DAUVIN without a criminal record. Jillian Williamson, DAUVIN’s lawyer said: “A conditional discharge is very much like a period of probation, it can be for a very lengthy period of time. Importantly the criminal code allows for a conditional discharge to be revoked at any time, so it’s a very helpful sentencing tool because it’s more dynamic than throwing someone in jail and shutting the door on them.” Williamson believes that by pleading guilty, her client showed he has changed and is taking responsibility. Williamson argued DAUVIN has already faced steep consequences for his actions since he was charged, including losing his job and being vilified on social media after the case was first reported.

Well, DAUVIN can and will pick up his useless and lousy life regardless of the sentence.

Jake is dead forever! Animal abusers are aware that if caught and arrested they will also face public exposure. No pity, no mercy for animal abusers!!!!

Crown prosecutor Aaron Martens, on the other hand, called for much harsher sentencing arguing that Jake’s suffering was “entirely preventable.”

Martens suggested either three to six months of jail time, or nine to 18 months to be served in the community. Additionally, Martens asked Judge Donna Scott to add 12 to 18 months of probation, 120 hours of community service and a prohibition against DAUVIN “owning” any animal in future.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 23, 2022, at Saskatoon Provincial Court, at 1:30 p.m. Martens said he is not sure what Judge Scott is going to decide, but notes both of his options send a message. He said: “We have to make sure people know that vulnerable members of our society whether they’re people or pets, need to be protected and people that abuse them need to expect consequences.”

On a separate note, Saskatoon StarPhoenix reports that “After a separate trial in Saskatoon provincial court on Aug. 3, Dauvin was also convicted of hitting another dog, named Brita, with a broom handle during a fight with another ex-girlfriend on Jan. 11, 2020. That case has been adjourned until Aug. 22 to set a date for a sentencing hearing.”
