Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson announced the arrest of 53-years-old ANTHONY MAURICE JACKSON SR. (pictured) after two innocent dogs had to be euthanized as a result of severe neglect.
During a press conference, Sheriff Swanson explained that back in June 2021, a female Bullmastiff named Mama Blue and her brother named Papa Black, had been bought for $2,500 each.
The furbabies developed a disorder on their paws called Pododermatitis (inflammation of the skin of the paw). Sheriff Swanson described it as “very similar to having an infected nail.”
The sheriff then showed the graphic pictures of the furbabies with all of their paws infected and said: “It’s like pins going inside the pads every time the dog walks.”
According to the sheriff, JACKSON was told that his dogs needed to be treated. The vet warned JACKSON that failing to promptly treat the dogs’ paws, would incapacitate them to the extent that they wouldn’t be able to walk, and ultimately leading to them being put down. According to Sheriff Swanson, JACKSON told the vet “he was gonna find his own remedy.”
In 2022, the house JACKSON lived in, off Fenton around 12 Street area, caught on fire and the insurance company put him in a hotel room but the 3-year-old Voiceless Victims were left in the backyard with their condition for over a year. A neighbor eventually alerted Animal Control.
On May 30, 2023, Genesee County Detective Jason White and Animal Control went to the property but the grass had grown so much that they could not even see Mama Blue and Papa Black. The siblings had been callously abandoned while in need of medical care and left to fend for themselves.
After Mama Blue and Papa Black were rescued, Detective White began his search for the monster responsible for the heinous crime. JACKSON was located and Sheriff Swanson said JACKSON has three prior domestic violence convictions. According to the sheriff, when JACKSON was found he refused to surrender the dogs and Detective White made multiple attempts to get JACKSON to surrender the furbabies so they could be treated. Unfortunately, in Michigan, if a guardian does not voluntarily surrender their dog, the dog cannot be seized.
Detective White then obtained two felony warrants for JACKSON and he finally surrendered Mama Blue and Papa Black.
Sheriff Swanson stressed the amazing job that Doctor McCormick did for these innocent souls and underlined the fact that Animal Control and volunteers “wrapped themselves around these two dogs.”
As Sheriff Swanson explained, Mama Blue and Papa Black were in so much pain, there was “no fix other than amputations” that the only ending that would make sense was “graceful euthanazation.”
I agree with Sheriff Swanson that this disaster could have been prevented!
Mama Blue and Papa Black were euthanized on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, and privately cremated with the monetary efforts of the people who made sure to give them something they did not know, LOVE! Team Mastiff, as Sheriff Swanson called all the incredible people involved in this case, made sure to show Mama Blue and Papa Black, love and care until their very last day on this earth! The day before Mama Blue and Papa Black were euthanized, Team Mastiff went out and got them a “big old steak dinner.” A member of Team Mastiff sent Sheriff Swanson a text message saying, “We wanted them to have full bellies.”
That’s should have been JACKSON’s responsibility! Instead, he allowed these innocent souls to live a life of torture!
JACKSON is facing two felony counts of cruelty to animals, killing, and torture. He is out on bond!
