The Greenville Police Department arrested 23-year-old DEANGELO ANTWON GODARD JR (pictured).

It started as a call for service for a domestic altercation at a residence on 5190 Deveron Street in Greenville. On the early afternoon of Sunday, July 7, 2024, GODARD’s girlfriend reported being assaulted and punched by GODARD. At one point she left the house and was able to get a ride to a nearby fast-food restaurant where she called for help.

Officers with Greenville Police escorted the woman back to her house to retrieve some belongings and discovered that the house was on fire. As they cleared the home to make sure that GODARD was not still there, they found and successfully rescued the woman’s dog who was trapped in a bedroom.

GODARD was located on July 11, 2024, on Bradford Drive and placed under arrest. He was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center on charges of felony cruelty to animals, second degree arson, injury to personal property, injury to real property, and crime of domestic violence. Bond was set at $370,000.

As for the furvictim, all I am able to tell you is that he/she was not injured and remained with his/her guardian, GODARD’s girlfriend.

As the editor of Voice For Us I strive to provide detailed and accurate information about the animals involved in the articles I publish. I emailed several agencies and departments, to inquire about the dog’s wellbeing, age, name, breed, gender, and the dog’s pictures.

I was told in an email by Donald K. Phillips, Assistant City Attorney:

“.... please note that the City is not required to reveal information (see e.g. your multiple questions contained in your public records request), unless that information is public record.  That is, ‘[t]he distinction between records and information also means that simply because a public employee knows a specific piece of information, he or she has no obligation to reveal that information to anyone who requests it.’ David M. Lawrence, Public Records Law for North Caroline Local Governments p. 35 (UNC School of Government 2nd ed 2009). Consequently, in response to your request for information the City responds as follows : The City declines to respond to your request for information but will provide you with public records and public records information that is responsive to your request.”

On the night of Thursday, January 11, 2024, the Loxley Police Department arrested 31-years-old JOSEPH ANDREW LERSCH (pictured).

In an interview with FOX10, Sgt. Zach Kuiken with the Loxley Police Department explained that LERSCH and his girlfriend were at her home trailer on County Road 49 in Loxley when they got into an argument that later “turned into a physical altercation, resulting in the female leaving the trailer.”

According to Sgt. Kuiken, the girlfriend went next door to a family member’s home and in her absence, LERSCH set her home ablaze.

The woman left leaving behind a mother dog and her three puppies who all sadly lost their precious lives.

I have emailed the Loxley Police Department to inquire about the Voiceless Victims but Sgt. Kuiken could not disclose any information and said: “Our victim in this case has requested privacy. Thank you.”

Sgt. Kuiken told FOX10 that when officers arrived, LERSCH was still on the scene and then ran from them. Officers said he appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

After a brief foot chase LERSCH was apprehended and placed under arrest. According to Sgt. Kuiken, LERSCH damaged a few items inside the patrol vehicle when he had to be further restrained for resisting arrest.

In addition to domestic violence, arson, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief, LERSCH has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

On the early morning of Wednesday, May 10, 2023, the Evansville Fire Department responded to a home in the 200 block of East Iowa Street, just a few blocks away from North Main Street.

WFIE reports that 42-years-old AMANDA KAY DECKARD (pictured), had called 911 to report that she started the fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found DECKARD on the porch with cuts to her arms.

Sadly, inside the home, firefighters found three pet lizards who had been beaten to death.

A firefighter sustained minor injuries “when a wooden board fell on him while he fought the fire” and two “neighboring homes were also damaged by the flames”, reports WFIE.

DECKARD is facing three felony counts of torturing or mutilating a vertebrate animal and arson. She is being held on a $10,000 bond.

Authorities did not disclose the furbabies’ names, so I took the liberty of naming them Fleur, Leaf, and Lotus for the tribute image. Should their given names be made public, I will rectify them accordingly.
