Aventura Police arrested 22-years-old JUSTIN LANCASTER (pictured) after he was witnessed abusing his two defenseless puppies.
On the night of Saturday, August 20, an officer responded to Aventura Boulevard and when he pulled into a Walgreens, he heard the sound of dogs wailing.
As the officer drove toward the sound of the dogs, two nearby CVS employees pointed him in the direction of LANCASTER and one of the two yelled: “He’s killing the dogs!”
Witnesses told the officer they saw LANCASTER throwing and slamming the puppies in the shrubbery.
The officer saw LANCASTER sitting on the ground with his back turned near some shrubbery. The officer reported that it appeared that LANCASTER was putting something around the puppies’ necks as they were crying out.
The officer called for backup and pointed his gun at LANCASTER ordering him to lay on his stomach.
LANCASTER turned to face the officer but did not follow his commands and said the puppies were his.
The officer realized that LANCASTER was not armed so he withdrew his weapon and put it away.
When the officer commanded LANCASTER to put his hands behind his back, LANCASTER stiffened his body and refused commands. The officer then punched him in the face to subdue him.
As the officer was struggling to place LANCASTER under arrest, one of the two furbabies ran off but was thankfully found a short time later.
The report stated that both puppies were “visibly hungry, shaking and scared.” It further stated that “When officers attempted to pick up the puppies, they both collapsed into the bush as if they were extremely exhausted from fighting off (the) defendant’s efforts to hurt them.”
Officers reported that LANCASTER had been trying to put a makeshift belt around the puppies’ necks. Officers described it to be short in length with a buckle and a string or cord attached to it.
LANCASTER, of Fort Lauderdale, was placed under arrest and charged with felony animal cruelty and resisting arrest.
Online arrest records show he is being held at the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitations.
Online court records do not have a date for his court appearance.
The furbabies were taken to the Hollywood Animal Hospital to be evaluated.
