The Mission Police Department arrested 20-year-old ALEC OMAR ESPERICUETA (pictured).

On the morning of Thursday, April 10, 2025, police responded to Tru-Fit Gym on 1718 E. Griffin Parkway after receiving a call from a woman who reported seeing a male torturing an animal in the parking lot.

According to the PC Affidavit, the woman told police that she saw a male holding what she thought was a car mat but, then she realized the male was holding an animal but she could not tell what animal.

The PC Affidavit stated: “The male then began slamming the animal on the ground and then proceeded to hit it with a rock. The male then placed the animal on the edge of the cement curb and began stomping on it.”

The woman told the police the male went inside the gym and that he had a black Toyota Tacoma. Thankfully she was able to provide officers with the license plate number.

The officer who responded to the scene met with the woman who showed him a partial video of the incident. The officer found a deceased gray cat on the east side of the parking lot and then saw the vehicle in question leaving.

After conducting a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, ESPERICUETA was identified as the driver. When he was questioned by the officer about the cat, ESPERICUETA claimed that

he had picked up the feline from his neighborhood with a trap, put the animal on the bed of his truck, and then drove to the gym.

According to the PC Affidavit, ESPERICUETA told the officer that when he arrived at the gym, he noticed that the cat was seizing and foaming at the mouth so he took him/her out of the cage and when he was unable to locate a pulse, he became upset and began slamming the cat on the ground multiple times. The PC Affidavit goes on to state: “Mr. Espericueta then grabbed a rock and smashed the cat in the head with the rock.” He then proceeded to put the cat on the curb and stomped on his/her tiny head and neck, leaving him/her lifeless before going to the gym as if nothing had happened.

The murderer was handcuffed and charged with one count of cruelty to non-livestock animal.

Jail records show he was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail on April 10, 2025, and released on the same day after posting a $100,000 bond.

I took the liberty of naming the Voiceless Victim Willow for the tribute image.

On the early evening of March 22, 2025, deputies with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 block of East El Dora Road in Donna to investigate a call about possible animal cruelty.

Upon arrival, deputies were met by the concerned resident, a 10-year-old boy, who showed them video evidence of 70-year-old JUAN PEDRO DELGADILLO BECERRA (pictured), repeatedly striking a small dog.

When deputies spoke with BECERRA, he admitted to “disciplining the dog but denied causing harm”, stated the release by the sheriff’s office.

According to the sheriff’s office, the dog had food, water, shelter, and no visible injuries.

The following day, deputies spoke with BECERRA again and placed him under arrest on one count of animal cruelty.

Deputies removed two dogs from BECERRA’s property and then alerted Animal Control.

An officer with the Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Animal Control Division was dispatched to assess the dogs’ wellbeing and they are now in the care of Palm Valley Animal Shelter.

BECERRA was arraigned on March 24, 2025, and bond was set at $3,000. At the time of writing, online arrest records show that BECERRA was released from the Hidalgo County Jail on March 25, 2025.

On the afternoon of Sunday, September 4, 2022, the McAllen Police Department responded to a welfare concern at a home on 1121 N. Fifth Street occupied by 48-years-old PAOLA ANDREA GAYTAN HERNANDEZ (pictured).

Police said a concerned neighbor called them to report a constant loud barking coming from HERNANDEZ’s residence. According to police, neighbors reported hearing dogs barking throughout the night and feared the dogs were possibly chained up and injured.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with HERNANDEZ who said that some of the dogs in the backyard were hers, and the others she was watching for a friend.

In the backyard officers found multiple Labradoodle and Yorkshire dogs. Some of them were held by a chain-linked leash and others were being kept in cages. None of them had access to food or water, and they were all surrounded by their own fecal matter. The ones who were chained had limited space to move around.

Among the dogs police saw a black female Labradoodle held by a chain-linked leash who had open wounds on her left back leg and asked HERNANDEZ about her. HERNANDEZ said the Labradoodle wasn’t hers and that a friend asked her to “take care of temporarily.”

Officers also reported the presence of a black cat kept in a cage without food and a dirty water bowl, and a Yorkie in a separate cage who looked extremely malnourished. According to police, the dog had little to no hair and appeared to be suffering from severe illness.

Officers asked HERNANDEZ whether she had taken the dog to the veterinarian but as the investigation unfolded, HERNANDEZ was not able to prove that the injured animals had received veterinary care.

HERNANDEZ then led officers inside the home where they found more dogs. An Afghan Hound appeared to be neglected. Police did not find any sign of food or water for the dogs inside the residence.

According to the criminal complaint, while officers were observing the conditions of the animals, HERNANDEZ “was making numerous … phone calls and sending messages.”

At some point, a woman identified as Lizbeth Anahi Zarate, arrived at HERNANDEZ’s home and said that HERNANDEZ contacted her about picking up her dogs due to police being there.

The complaint stated that “Zarate further advised she has been breeding her dogs for years with [Hernandez].”

Police arrested HERNANDEZ on seventeen counts for not providing necessary food, water, care or shelter for pets, a Class A misdemeanor, and three counts of causing serious bodily injury to the degree that the pets are in a condition of dying, a third-degree felony.

Online records show she was released from the Hidalgo County Jail on Wednesday, September 7, 2022.
