~ Update:

I emailed Ms. Faith Wright, the Palm Valley Animal Society director, and asked her whether any animals were found deceased on the property.

Ms. Wright tells me that no animals were found dead and that none of the rescued animals were euthanized. Ms. Wright also said: “We have been able to send all but 25 so far to foster and rescues.”

The McAllen Police Department announced the arrest of 54-years-old LETICIA N. SANDERS and 55-years-old CINDY ANN WELLS (both pictured), in connection with a hoarding case.

On the morning of Saturday, March 30, 2024, police received a report from an Uber Eats driver about an odor in the 3400 block of Ozark Avenue.

Responding officers requested assistance at the scene from the McAllen Fire Department and ambulance services.

Once inside the property, officials found a large number of dogs and one cat.

All of the Voiceless Victims were taken to the Palm Valley Animal Society (PVAS). In a Facebook post, the shelter wrote that ninety-three (93) dogs had been rescued from an hoarding case and placed in their care “under dire circumstances.”

Valley Central reports that Faith Wright, the Palm Valley Animal Society director of operations, said: “They are very, very matted, some can barely walk, due to their feet being tied together by their hair. It’s been a pretty traumatic situation.”

In a subsequent post, PVAS advised that some of the dogs were thankfully placed in foster homes. The other dogs will be transported to rescue groups in San Antonio and New Braunfels.

As you can imagine, the Palm Valley Animal Society needs help to face the sudden influx.

Please, visit their Facebook page to learn how you can help. Thank you!

SANDERS and WELLS were arraigned on Monday, April 1, 2024, on ninety-four (94) counts of animal cruelty and received a $188,000 bond each.

At time of writing, records show they are being held in the Hidalgo County Jail.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office announced that a “complex animal cruelty/hoarding investigation that began on February 14, 2023,” has come to an end and resulted in the arrest of 55-years-old MARIE VIRGINIA ALVARADO (pictured).

The sheriff’s office said that ALVARADO was arrested on May 2, 2023, and booked into the Weld County Jail on 174 counts of cruelty to animals.

As a result of the investigation, a total of 174 dogs, all mixed small Chiweenie/terriers, were removed from ALVARADO’s property in Roggen. Due to ALVARADO’s home being uninhabitable, the Weld County Health Department was also notified.

In a press release of April 21, 2023, the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) said that its Agriculture’s Pet Animal Care and Facilities Act (PACFA) program partnered with Weld County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control to remove ninety-five dogs from ALVARADO’s home on April 18, 2023.

ALVARADO agreed to surrender the dogs and cooperated with the multiple agencies who assisted the WCSO with the investigation.

CDA also issued a cease and desist order to ALVARADO “for operating an animal shelter or sanctuary at her residence without a valid license.”

Upon relinquishment, the Larimer Humane Society took in thirty-five (35) dogs, while the remaining 60 were transported by the Colorado Humane Society and Dumb Friends League to the metro area for disbursement to Foothills Animal Shelter, the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR), and MaxFund Animal Shelter .

Back in April, the Larimer Humane Society explained in a Facebook post that before taking in the thirty-five dogs, the shelter had already removed additional twenty-two (22) dogs from the same residence in mid-March. The nonprofit said: “Given the extent of the hoarding situation, it’s no surprise that these dogs are under socialized, confused and scared. Our staff has been working diligently to assess their medical conditions, evaluate their behavioral needs, and ensure their comfort.”

Ms. Amanda Myers, director of development and community relations for the Larimer Humane Society, told Reporter-Herald that out of the twenty-two dogs removed in March, one had to be euthanized. With regard to the thirty-five dogs removed in April, Ms. Myers said most of them were in good medical condition, although many experienced dental problems, and sadly, one of them had to be euthanized due to health issues.

I have emailed the Weld County Sheriff’s Office and requested additional information about the dogs and the condition they were found in. In an email, a spokesperson said that at this time the sheriff’s office is not realizing any more information about the case. I will email the Weld County District Attorney’s Office to see if I can find out more. If I receive a response, I will post an update.

Online court records show that ALVARADO’s arraignment is scheduled to take place on June 7, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 77-years-old BETTY LYNNE FUCHSEL (pictured).

In a news release the sheriff’s office said that its Animal Enforcement Division has been conducting an ongoing complaint of animal hoarding at two separate residences, owned by FUCHSEL, located in the Dolan Springs area.

According to the complaint, “some of these animals were running at large and attacking livestock in the area.”

As indicated in the release, one of the properties is located in the 15000 block of N. Garnet Drive and the other one is in the 16000 block of N. Kathleen Drive.

The sheriff’s office said that over the past several years FUCHSEL “has received several citations in reference to the violations and failed to comply or appear in court.”

FUCHSEL was placed under arrest on January 11, 2023, “for warrants that had been issued for her arrest for failing to appear on these charges,” stated the release.

After FUCHSEL’s arrest, authorities executed a search warrant on both her properties and this is how the sheriff’s office described it:

Upon entering the two residences, the floors were found to be covered with feces, trash, and urine. Several dogs were found to be locked up inside the residence and in vehicles on the property, with no access to food or water. The dogs were found to be emaciated and in various stages of neglect. During the search of the properties, a total of forty-three dogs were seized. Several of the dogs were taken for immediate emergency veterinarian care.”

The VOICELESS VICTIMS removed from the properties were turned over to the care and custody of the Mohave County Animal Shelter.

In addition to her violations and arrest, FUCHSEL is also charged with forty-three counts of animal cruelty, a class 5 felony.

I have emailed the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office to inquire whether any deceased animals were found on the properties and its spokesperson told me: “I have not been made aware of any deceased animals found on the property.”
