A sweet and innocent Chihuahua is safe and is recovering after being stabbed multiple times by a stranger, while being walked by his teenage mom.
The incident happened on the evening of Monday, December 26, 2022, while the 12-year-old furbaby named Bebe, was out on a walk with his 15-year-old mom in the 6600 block of West Irving Park Road in the Dunning neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
A building's security cameras captured the vicious attack and the distressing footage showed 61-years-old JEANETTE OLIVO (pictured), approaching Bebe and the teenage girl, and stabbing Bebe for no reason whatsoever.
When the girl ran away, OLIVO chased her with the knife, and stabbed Bebe several more times. OLIVO then ran off and dropped the knife about a block away. The girl’s father, Sergio Macias, caught OLIVO and held her until police arrived.
Authorities took OLIVO into custody and charged her with one felony count of aggravated cruelty to an animal and one felony count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The amazing nonprofit Garrido Stray Rescue Foundation stepped in and thanks to the generous donations received, more than $9,000 raised in just two days, Bebe underwent a life-saving surgery which allowed him to leave the hospital on Wednesday and be back home with his loving family.
Ms. Ana Gabriela Jasso, the teenager’s mom, said: “He's doing great. He's eating good. He was even barking with the other dogs, so that's a good sign to them.”
Part of a Facebook post by Garrido Stray Rescue Foundation read: “WE DID IT TOGETHER - WE SAVED BEBE! THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for your encouraging words, prayers, and overwhelming generosity 💙”
The nonprofit also expressed gratitude to Premier Veterinary Group of Chicago which “helped by reducing our bill as well - thank you caring people 🙏🏼”
During her first court appearance on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, OLIVO’s bond was set at $25,000. Online records show she is still in custody and should she be able to post bond, she has been ordered not to live with or own any animals.
OLIVO is due back in Skokie Courthouse on the morning of Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
